Corrections policy and change log

How FirstFiveK handles mistakes: how to report one, how fast we fix it, how the fix is marked on the page, and a dated log of every change.

Nine lanes, nine weeks. Solid chalk is running, dashes are walking, drawn to scale in minutes.

Numbers on this site are meant to be checked. When one is wrong, this is what we do about it.

Reporting a mistake

Use the contact form. Tell us the page and the figure; if you can, include what you expected and how you worked it out. You do not need to leave a name or email unless you want a reply.

What we do

  1. Reproduce it. We recompute the figure from the formulas on the how we calculate page.
  2. Fix it at the source. Every table is generated from one shared set of formulas, so a fix applies everywhere that figure appears, including the calculators and the downloadable distance table.
  3. Mark it. The page’s “last checked” line gets the new date and a short note saying what changed. We do not change that date unless the content actually changed.
  4. Log it here. Corrections that change a number or a recommendation are listed below with the date, permanently.

We aim to answer reports within 7 days. Wording fixes and typos are corrected without a log entry; anything that changes a number, a rule or advice is always logged.

What counts as a correction

  • A figure that does not match its stated formula.
  • A formula or assumption that is wrong or out of date (for example, a conversion factor).
  • A statement attributed to a source that the source does not support.
  • A page that answers a different question from the one in its title.

Differences of opinion about training are not corrections, but we read them, and they sometimes lead to a clearer page.
